Results from the 2019 Peru National Tour
July 26, 2019 - July 28, 2019 in Peru, IN
Super Street (SS) - The Closest Battle: This class came down to a razor-thin final margin of victory of just 0.003 second. Joel Zeller held the lead after Day 1, but Josh Lipman put down a blistering final run on Sunday that had enough raw speed to take the win. However, Lipman clipped the final apex cone on the course, handing the victory to Zeller.
F Modified (FM) - Sportsmanship in Action: Will Lahee led after Day 1, but Brad Smith dominated early on Sunday with a run nearly two seconds faster than the field. The big story occurred when Dan Wheeler suffered a mechanical failure (a broken hub). Lahee generously offered Wheeler his spare hub, and the entire F Modified grid pitched in to change it in time. Wheeler went back out and managed to edge Lahee out for second place by just 0.097 second, proving true sportsmanship pays off.
F Street Prepared (FSP) - Pre-Nationals Showdown: This 5-driver class featured an incredibly tight field. On Day 1, Greg Anthony dealt with an alternator belt issue but still managed to hold onto the lead. Drivers Andrew Blasiman and Geoff Zimmer both hit cones on what would have been winning runs. Anthony held on to win by just 0.054 second over Blasiman, with the top four drivers separated by a mere 0.367 second.
A Street (AS) - Volatile Leaderboard: The top three drivers on Day 1 (Dan Simms, John Wolf, and Bill Bostic) were separated by only 0.078 second. After trading the lead multiple times during Sunday's runs, Bostic ultimately clinched the top spot by 0.134 second over Simms, with Wolf finishing third.
Street Touring Sport (STS) - Yokohama Debut: Co-drivers Emanuel Martin and Adam Deffenbaugh showed the strength of the Yokohama 200-treadwear tires by taking a 1st and 2nd finish in their Mazda Miata. This marked Emanuel Martin's very first SCCA Solo National Tour victory.
E Street Prepared (ESP): Clint Griest drove his Mazdaspeed 6 into a convincing wire-to-wire win, leading from his very first run. He won by 0.442 second over Jay Bullington in an Audi S4. (Notably, Bullington generously offered his car to five other drivers across multiple classes, securing trophy finishes in both SM and XP).
